Mushrooming in May - 3 hour forage in Red Hill & Main Ridge

  • 31 Old Main Creek Rd Main Ridge, VIC, 3928 Australia (map)

MUSHROOMING IN MAY

…THE ART OF FINDING THE FUNGUS AMONGST US…

Cooler weather, cloudy skies, fallen leaves & scents of garlic & red wine fill the air in May.

Come and join us for a guided Mushrooming tour of Main Ridge & Red Hill, as we identify, hunt & pick the edible delights this wonderful local region has to offer.

Meeting up the hill, we will be taking a stroll through the pine lined roads of Red Hill & Main Ridge, seeking out & collecting this mushroom season’s choicest morsels from beneath our feet!

Learn to identify the two most easily recognised wild mushrooms that grow in our local area, where the best spots are to find them, how to pick & clean them, and how to cook them!

I’ll be taking along a little camp stove, some French butter, a little smoked bacon, a handful of home grown herbs and, along with some crusty bread, we’ll have ourselves a little roadside mushroom master class & cook up with some of our hoard,

For those of you with hipflasks, be certain to bring along a little of your finest port or sherry, you can be certain to work up a thirst along the way, and nothing says wild mushrooms better than a good slurp of sherry or port.

After the walk, you’re invited to head to a local winery or two, and sample some of the best the peninsula has to offer, while we chat mushrooms, recipes & wine.

This may turn into an all afternoon event, so allow extra time if you like to have a chin wag over a glass or two!

Priced at only $45 per person, this is one class that is sure to fill up fast, and numbers are limited so be sure to grab your ticket fast.

Price includes: 3 hour guided walk & forage, detailed identification class & notes, hunting tips, wild mushroom masterclass, roadside al fresco light lunch, recipes & more, plus the option for joining us afterwards for a drink or two.

The walk is fairly gentle, along dirt roads with a few slight hills, so a certain level of fitness is required (but we’re not talking about marathon running here)

Walking boots/gumboots & wet weather gear are a must, as Mother Nature may throw a few obstacles our way…

We will be meeting up there, so you’ll need to find your own way there and back, as well as a small drive between hunting grounds during the forage (maybe organise an Uber/lift home if you’ve brought along a hip flask & are joining us afterwards :)

Tickets can be purchased by calling us here at The Kitchen on 5903 5450 - full pre-payment is required, and a minimum 48 hours notice cancellation policy applies.
