Mushrooming (Saturday 20.05.23) SOLD OUT

  • Main Ridge, VIC, 3928 Australia (map)

SOLD OUT

MUSHROOMING FORAGE & LUNCH

Cooler weather, cloudy skies, fallen leaves & scents of garlic & red wine fill the air in May & June.

Come and join us for a guided Mushrooming tour of Main Ridge & Red Hill, as we identify, hunt, pick, cook & eat the edible delights this wonderful local region has to offer.

Meeting up the hill (location to be advised closer to the time after a few scouting missions…) we will be taking a stroll through the pine lined roads of Red Hill & Main Ridge, seeking out & collecting this mushroom season’s choicest morsels from beneath our feet!

Learn to identify the two most easily recognised wild mushrooms that grow in our local area, where the best spots are to find them, how to pick & clean them, and how to cook them!

I’ll be taking along a little camp stove, some French butter, a little smoked bacon, a handful of home grown herbs and, along with some crusty bread, we’ll have ourselves a little roadside mushroom master class & cook up with some of our hoard,

For those of you with hipflasks, be certain to bring along a little of your finest port or sherry, you can be certain to work up a thirst along the way, and nothing says wild mushrooms better than a good slurp of sherry or port.

Priced at only $75 per person, this is one class that is sure to fill up fast, and numbers are limited so be sure to grab your ticket fast.

Price includes: 2.5 hour guided walk & forage, detailed identification class & notes, hunting tips, wild mushroom masterclass, roadside al fresco light lunch, recipes & more

The walk is fairly gentle, along dirt roads with a few slight hills, so a certain level of fitness is required (but we’re not talking about marathon running here)

Walking boots/gumboots & wet weather gear are a must, as Mother Nature may throw a few obstacles our way…

We will be meeting up there, so you’ll need to find your own way there and back, as well as a small drive between hunting grounds during the forage (maybe organise an Uber/lift home if you’ve brought along a hip flask :)

Please note:

~ Mother Nature is a fickle thing, and as the weather progresses into cooler months, mushrooms become more & more sporadic. If the weather takes a cool turn early, later dates could be affected and those hunts may be cancelled and/or rescheduled

~ Due to the constraints of cooking on a camp stove, in the middle of rural Victoria, we will be unable to cater to specific dietary requirements, as the roadside dish served will contain gluten, dairy & animal products.
