The Kitchen Group started here nearly nine years ago when a little milk bar around the corner came up for sale on Gumtree. Being the young(er) and slightly more naive person I was back then, I decided to quit my corporate job in the city, ditch the three hours of driving every day, and return to my culinary routes. Little did I know then what three more venues, six lockdowns and a couple more kids would add to that mix :)
So here we are, with a few more staff (37) a few fewer hairs (more than 37) and still cooking up sheer deliciousness every day from our little place in the middle of the back streets in the middle of nowhere.
We’re proud to serve up home-cooked, honest food, with an emphasis on flavour, local produce, and proper ingredients & we find the addition of a little bit of love the major clincher when it comes to our wares, and we’ll think you’ll agree too.
Our pies, sausage rolls, pasties, and sweet treats are all made in house, for sale at not only The Hidden Kitchen, but also our sister establishments, The Kitchen, and St Andrews Kitchen - as well as supplying our goodies wholesale to Hawkes Farm and The Peninsula Beer Garden, so if you don’t manage to find us out in the sticks on Mathis Avenue, you’ll no doubt bump into our range and sample our offerings on the peninsula somewhere.
We’re open 7 days a week from 6:30 am for all the early birds chasing their coffee and breakfast cravings, and the doors stay open until 3 pm every day for those last-minute snacks, late lunches, or last-minute caffeine fixes. We’ve got a cute little shady and pet-friendly courtyard, with plenty of seats, which is perfect for you and your four-legged friends, also there’s limited seating inside should the weather be a little more on the wet side. We only operate on a walk-in basis, but feel free to give us a call on 03 5985 7702 to check if there’s space for your group.
We’ve also never believed in a menu as such, as we find them a little too restrictive and severely impact our creative freedom when it comes to our tasty sandwiches, homemade pies, salads, sweet treats, and daily specials. You never know what you’re going to get from one day to the next, but we can guarantee you’ll leave with a smile on your face and a belt that might be a little tighter around the waist…
